Activation and removal detection is through the placement of the reader on the magnets on the plastic adapter.
Basically we do not see any issue for mounting our devices and reading the meters. There could be a geometrical issue with the adapter on the water meter as the hinge of the lid could overlap with the best adapter position. We would need to check for this and if necessary find another way of fixing the adapter/reader.
XemReader Communication Options
XemReader are communicating wirelessly either through a local gateway (XemGate) or local/global antenna using low-power narrow-band communication solutions (mainly 868 MHz, but also 915/169 MHz, such as wireless MBus, LoRa, Sigfox, or other 868 MHz narrowband two-way radio systems on request) or direct GSM communication (with battery lifetime reduced by a factor 2 to 4). For ATEX Zone 2 and IP67 protection reasons XemReaders are hermetically sealed (battery replacement through refurbishment service). Upon request and in function of quantities Xemtec delivers XemReaders with wired serial bus interfaces (mainly RS485 including bus powering option and different protocols on request). However, ATEX and IP protection levels for wired devices drop to IP43/IP54 and prices increase (additional cable and ATEX connectors). The best option is using XemReaders wirelessly transmitting data to a local gateway (XemGate via wireless MBus) with conversion to a RS485 bus connection on the gateway.
Difference Between Reading and Transmission Frequency
The time indicated is the pre-programmed time between each reading or each transmission respectively. The first line means the reader wakes up every hour, reads a value and transmits this value to the server. The 2nd line means the reader wakes up every 15 minutes, takes a reading and stores it into the internal memory. To that, every 24 hours a transmission of all 96 readings will occur. The most common scheme is the 3rd line which means reading every hour and transmission of 24 values once per day.

Fraud Detection Option
Removing is detected as soon as the device is taken away from the adapter (magnet contact) and an alarm message is sent to the server. However, if someone would take away reader+adapter together, no alarm possible, but we suggest a physical protection with a cable.
Low GSM Coverage Option
XemReaders do not have external antenna as we will not be able to guarantee IP67 protection. However, our gateway can be placed between the meter and the GSM-antenna and plays the role of a relay. The local communication from the XemReaders, a gateway can be shared with several XemReaders in the RF range, is based on a 868MHz low-power wireless MBus RF link.
Leakage Detection Option
There are different ways to detect wasted/leaked/frauded resources: statistical (to find out what are the overall losses in a network) or measured (to localise leaks in a network). We need much more details about what your customer wants to get as pieces of information or graphics or statistics. Our leakage-detection installation are much more sophisticated as we need to synchronise measurements over a known network infrastructure (where are the metering points, links between metering points. This is not just the same cost as to read meters.
Data Securised Cloud Access
Xemtec provides a solution in the cloud with API or web access. No need for servers (or then data is pushed to customer’s server if they have internal DB). Xemtec can provide a data collection container, installed on your customer’s server which receives all incoming reading data and puts it into a database. Through APIs collected data can then be consulted by/transferred into the different applications of your customer. Xemtec would need to have access (for installation/maintenance) to your customer’s server.
